felt storage

I have a prodigious collection of felt now, all in 9 x 12 and 12 x 18 inch pieces. And no good way to store it. Right now it is piled in a laundry basket on the floor.

Ideally, it would be easy to pluck out any piece I'd like without bringing on an avalanche, and be sorted by color. I thought about maybe getting some of those shoe storage thingies from Lowes or places like it. Anyone got a great idea on how to store/organize felt?

  1. Ooh... that is exactly how I store my yarn... in that same shoe bin. It works out perfectly except there is no back on it so it must be pushed up against something. I highly recommend it.

  2. Good luck. I have no good ideas for this one. My felt pieces are all shoved in old Walmart sacks. Sad.

Thanks for the compliment on Chloe's pic. It was sad to see her so sick, but I love that picture too. :)

  3. That looks like a great idea...you're so clever! Or, how about some type of wine rack?

  4. Or a paper sorter? Or are they too long? What about vertical like from wire hangers with clothespins?
The container store has Sorvino wine crates that might work. Or how about under the bed storage by color? They would lay on top of each other but you would only have to look thru by color. Last thought would be a behind the door hanging rack like for shoes or the pantry. The pockets are big. Or as someone would suggest to me.. did you try Ikea? :-P

  6. Hmmm...how about one of those hangers that has 6 rungs to hang 6 pairs of pants. You can drape the fabric on the rungs and add more hangers as necessary. The one I have is pretty long. Good luck!

  8. rolled up and standing on end like in a bucket or flower pot. You could also have them rolled up laying on their sides sticking out of those shoe bins you pictured

  9. I bought some cardboard magazine holders in the "one-spot" at Target - very cute designs. I stuffed the felt upright, like magazines into the holders, then placed them on my shelf in the sewing room.
