success!

Thank you, everyone, for your great ideas and leads! And for feeling my pain. You make a stupendous think tank. And as a bonus, I now have links to a lot of cool kid's books that I didn't have before. But I finally found The One! After searching with about twenty different text strings, all variations on Year Round, All Year, Around the Year, etc... here it is. I have already purchased it off ebay and am waiting for it to arrive so I can relive my childhood. And possibly share it with the girls.

Do you see why I thought it might be Richard Scarry? Apparently, J.P. Miller had a very similar style.

  3. WHOOPEE! Success is good. I think it would be awesome to see some of your fantastic doll skills put to use in making some of these into doll patterns. Your patterns are some of the best I've worked with. Making a Bitty Bunny again.

  4. someone blogged about your book here http://www.vintagechildrensbooksmykidloves.com/2008/10/around-year-storybook.html

The author of your book wrote for Richard Scary in the 50's. So maybe that is why this is so reminiscent?

  6. Ha! I do this too. I have vivid memories of things from my childhood. I love that you can hunt them down. It is a great feeling to have that thing in your fingers and warming your heart when you remember what it was from your childhood that made it so special. I did this a few years ago with a Christmas album. It is the New Christy Minstrels album. My parents were crazy folk music lovers. Now my kids sing those very energetic songs at Christmas time. Warms my heart.

So glad you were able to find the book. It does indeed look a lot like Richard Scarry.

  7. hey, thanks y'all! Can't wait til it gets here.

Kate, you are too sweet. I see potential dolls every time I look at a kids book. I'm so glad you like the patterns!

Well rounded mom, wow, great post find! Someone else feels as sentimental as I do about it.

Anjeanette, dude, my mom and dad had New Christy Minstrels albums too. "And the cat came back, the very next day, yes, the cat came back and it wouldn't stay away..." Ha!

  10. I had an idea and although the inside of the book looks the same as the one I was trying to remember, the cover is completely different to the one I had. Glad you found it though.

  12. So glad you found the book you were looking for! As long as the readers of this blog are so kid-book-savvy, I have one for you.

My husband has been looking near and far for a book from his childhood called something like The Biggest Sandwich in the World, where the child actually builds a giant sandwich as he/she reads(?). But we can't find it anywhere. Any ideas on the real title?

  13. Oh, I almost forgot if you have any ideas about that sandwich book, my e-mail is mrs_apple_juice (at) hotmail (dot) com

  14. Wife and Mother,
That book rung zero bells with me, but this turned up when I googled 'biggest sandwich book':
    http://www.amazon.com/Biggest-Sandwich-Ever-Rita-Gelman/dp/059030559X
Maybe that is it. Otherwise, just try googling any search strings you can think of and looking at the images that pop up.
    Good luck!
