fat quarters

Purchased recently while browsing Decherd Needleworks. Some because they seemed like good doll clothes. Others just 'cause.

And I finally bought one of these bias tape maker gizmos. I used to scoff at them because I thought they were not that essential, but now I'm curious. Maybe I've needed it desperately and never realized it.

  1. You will love the bias tape thingy, I have two sizes and I use them all the time! I love bias tape, period. It's easy, and fast, and pretty. Especially if you can make it yourself to match your project!

  2. If you have made your own bias tape without this little gizmo before, you are going to do a dance of joy! It is a HUGE time saver!!!! I love mine....

  3. Oh, shoot. Wish I'd known you "needed" the bias tape maker. Here are some you can make yourself:

Maybe you can return yours? At least now you can have more sizes for free! I haven't actually tried them yet. Haven't had a need for new bias tape since I found them. But they seem ingenius!

  4. Hey, guys. I usually just cut a strip of bias fabric, sew it unpressed and unfolded to the right side of my garment, then fold it over and press under, then stitch. It's been pretty easy, but this gadget might make it even easier.

Grandma G, no sweat. It was only a few dollars. That's really clever how she made one from a paper template! Thanks for the link. Like you said, now I at least have the option of doing other sizes if needed.

  5. I like using the gadget just to save time and my fingers. It's okay. Sometimes I have trouble keeping the width consistent. I'm sure it's operator error.

  6. I can also attest to the awesomeness that is a bias tape maker. I use both of mine often. :)

  7. o i love my bias tape makers. I have multiple sizes that come in super handy. I bought mine after I folded and pressed about 10m of bias. I think bias tape is one of the most satisfying things in sewing!Good luck.
oh by the way I sew bias tape on the opposite to Larissa's suggestion. It's totally personal preference.

  10. Barnicles, yes, I tried it and I love it. However...I'm was ignorant about the sizing and didn't realize it means 1/2" single fold not double, so I will probably also purchase the 1" so I can have 1/2" double folded too. Live and learn! Sometimes it still seems easier just to slap it on there unpressed and do my usual thing, but having this as an option will be great, especially for single fold stuff and straps.
