Santa Claus: detailed Benzie color guides – kits available!

Santa Claus is the first pattern in my 'Twas the Night Ornament Series. Here are the detailed felt/floss/sequin/bead color guides for you, so that you can easily make Santa Clauses that look like my Benzie felt samples! Benzie Design has long been one of my favorite places to purchase wool-blend felts. They have stellar customer service, quick shipping, and their felt, floss, sequins and beads are an absolute joy to work with! They will be very happy to help you with what you need.

First, some handy links:
To buy the Santa Claus pattern: mmmcrafts.etsy.com
To buy the Classic or Retro felt palettes shown here:

I personally chose two different palettes from Benzie's beautiful wool-blend felts to make the ornament samples you see here:

'Twas the Night CLASSIC palette:

This 10 pc felt palette includes timeless color combos for Santa Claus in reds, blues and golds.

'Twas the Night RETRO palette:

For this palette, I chose colors that evoke the modern era of the 50s and 60s, with pinks, mints and olives.

For both Benzie Design felt palettes, you can purchase just the felt, or choose the drop down option to include the matching floss (which you will need to sew the ornament together.)

  1. Hello Larissa. Your ornaments are beautiful, as always! I was wondering, why didn't you use a strong red for your classic Santa's jacket? Is the Benzie red too dark? Or two vibrant? Thanks for the lovely pattern.

    1. Hello! Thanks so much! His coat is a very vibrant red called Carmine. It's not a classic red, but it was my preference. I just like rich, bright colors. Benzie also has a more traditional true red called (wait for it) Red. :-) That would look very nice too! Maybe paired with Carmine for the body. I hope that helps!

    2. Well, a vibrant red will stand out among the tree branches. :-D

  2. HI Larissa,I got my pattern and my Benzie supplies. My question is where you get the cotton pipe cleaners. I see some on etsy that look off white. The salesgirl at Joanns said maybe a smoke shop. Any way I'm excited to make them.

    1. Hi, Elizabeth! Thanks so much for your purchase! I have resources for purchasing supplies listed in the back of the pattern. I just purchase my cotton pipe cleaners at Amazon.com because I use a lot, but a pipe/cigar shop or a hardware store is a great place to find them locally. Mine are a creamy white. I bought these a while back and since it's over 500, I've still got plenty. haha! https://www.amazon.com/BJ-Long-Standard-Pipe-Cleaners/dp/B000WW6VUO/ref=sr_1_1?crid=1HS4BW6XBRS96&keywords=bj+long+pipe+cleaners&qid=1567974361&s=gateway&sprefix=bj+long+p%2Caps%2C852&sr=8-1

  3. These are so pretty! And I love the Night before Christmas poem. Too bad my kids don’t speak english yet. Glancing over the pics the mint santa looks a bit like a hangman santa because of his slanted head Poor guy!
